What is Nextcloud?

Nextcloud is an AGPL-3.0, self-hosted file storage and sync platform with collaboration tools built in. It covers much of what teams use Google Drive and Workspace for, across desktop, mobile and web, while the data stays on your server.

What's in the Meetrix Nextcloud AMI

The AMI runs Nextcloud All-in-One (AIO), which installs Nextcloud and its optional apps as containers from a guided web setup.

How to set up a self-hosted Nextcloud server

  1. Launch the stack

Subscribe on AWS Marketplace and launch the CloudFormation stack with your domain, then point DNS at the PublicIp.

  2. Open the AIO setup

Go to the InitialSetupUrlDomain, save the passphrase and log in to Nextcloud AIO.

  3. Pick your apps

Submit your domain, tick optional apps such as Collabora or ClamAV, then download and start the containers.

  4. Sign in

Save the generated login details and open Nextcloud at your domain.

Nextcloud FAQ

What is Nextcloud?

An open-source, self-hosted file storage and sync platform with collaboration tools, for documents, tasks and more across desktop, mobile and web.

Is Nextcloud free?

The Community Edition is AGPL-3.0 with no user cap. On AWS you pay for the instance, storage and any Meetrix software fee shown on the listing.

Do I need a domain?

Yes. A public domain is required for SSL, and you enter it during the AIO setup.

Which instance size should I choose?

t3a.small is the baseline. Add RAM and vCPUs if you install optional apps such as Collabora or ClamAV.

How do I back up Nextcloud?

Open the AIO interface from Administration settings, set a backup location and click Create backup. Save the encryption password, and restart the containers when the backup finishes.

Can Nextcloud replace Google Workspace?

Largely. Files, Talk, calendars, contacts and document editing cover most small-business needs, but email needs separate hosting.

Does self-hosting make me GDPR compliant?

It solves data residency, since data stays on servers you control. You still need access controls, encryption and processing records.

How do I upgrade?

Back up your data, remove the old stack and launch the new version from AWS Marketplace.
