Wekan FAQ

What is Wekan?

An open-source Kanban tool inspired by Trello, for managing tasks with boards, lists and cards, with labels, due dates and attachments.

Is Wekan free?

Yes. It is MIT licensed with no per-user fee and no board limit. On AWS you pay for the instance and any Meetrix software fee shown on the listing.

How is Wekan different from Trello?

Same boards, lists and cards. Wekan is self-hosted and free at any size; Trello is a more polished SaaS with per-seat pricing and a Power-Up marketplace.

Can I import my Trello boards?

Yes. Wekan imports Trello JSON exports, recreating lists, cards, labels and checklists. Attachments and comments come across less reliably.

Does Wekan have automation?

Yes. Rules let you set up trigger-and-action automations, and WIP limits cap cards per list or swimlane.

Is there an API?

Yes. See the official Wekan API documentation at wekan.github.io/api.

Which instance size should I choose?

t3.medium is the recommended starting point.

How do I upgrade?

Back up your server data, remove the old stack and launch the new version from AWS Marketplace.
